Circular Quay masterplan
The Government Architect’s Office (GAO) and HASSELL was engaged by the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority in mid 2010 to prepare a masterplan that delivers a long term vision for Circular Quay, the iconic gateway to the Sydney CBD. Featuring landmarks such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and Sydney Opera House, it is an internationally recognisable precinct that shapes the city. The GAO/ HASSELL team focused on the development of an over-arching strategic framework, one that provides a robust vision for a nominal 50 year horizon. Importantly, it is intended that the masterplan will be implemented through a series of projects that are largely independent, and these will progressively contribute to the long term vision. The masterplan has focused on a series of key precincts for development and renewal around the Quay. The masterplan integrates these key precincts with its locality, adjacent precincts, projects and plans to ensure strategic connections and fit are optimised, especially within the City, Barangaroo, Walsh Bay and Darling Harbour.
